Welcome to Wången National Centre for Education in Trotting and Equestrian Sports Center!
 
Wången is a national center for education and development in Swedish trotting. It is one of three national equestrian sports centers, whose main task is to educate professional equestrians in the field of the modern horse industry, specializing in horses for sport and leisure. Wången offers education and research opportunities along with conference facilities and an inn with varied accommodations.
ABOUT WÅNGEN
Wången is located in the picturesque Alsen region between Åre and Östersund. Horses have been important to this region for over 100 years. Formerly a stud-farm, today Wången is the national center for Swedish harness racing and offers a wide variety of education and courses in harness racing and Icelandic horse riding. These activities are held in close co-operation with the sports’ respective organizations.
SHORT HISTORY
Wången has an exciting history which can be traced as far back as the Iron Age. In many ways, the history of Wången reflects the history of Swedish society in general. Historical changes have affected the development of Wången, from a stud-farm into a national equestrian sports center.
In 1903, a rearing center for North Swedish stallions was founded here to save the North Swedish horse from extinction. It was initiated by the agricultural societies in the four northernmost counties. Along with motorization of society began the demise of the horse as a vital working partner, but the rearing center remained in operation until 1996. As horses grew more common in the area of sport and leisure, Wången was made into an equestrian center specialized in trotting and more recently also Icelandic horse riding.
